If you think checks are just for lumberjacks and school uniforms think again! They are another great fashion trend from this seasons collections.  Best of all they come in all colours from bright statement prints to pretty muted pastels, so there is a check to suit everyone.  Here's our top tips for looking great in checks!

1. Team them with contrasting pieces in dark colours, or pick one shade from the check and use that for accessories.  Checks can be a really pretty colour for skater dresses, and match shoes and accessories with one shade.

2. If you have a smaller frame, you're probably better to stick to smaller gingham type prints.  Gingham is traditionally woven in two colours but you can jazz it up by wearing a gingham skirt with a floral print top - it doesn't matter if prints and colours clash this summer.

3. If a whole outfit is too much of a good thing for you opt for a top with a panel of checked fabric.  For example a black and white checked bodice but sleeves and yoke in plain black. If you just want to add a touch of checked fabric there are even checked loafers and plimsolls around this year.

4.  For smarter occasions, a plain skirt suit can be brought up to date by wearing it with a blouse in a hounds tooth check. Perhaps a black and white check, adding scarlet shoes and a bag for a splash of colour.
