Double Denim
We know, we know – ever since Britney and Justin went denim-tastic at the 2001 American Music Awards, the thought of double denim has made us twitch a little – but stay with us here: A short boxy denim jacket over a stripy top with comfy-fit frayed edge jeans… That’s a winner. Denim waistcoats are back – think Status Quo circa 1983, and denim dungaree dresses are always cute, but if you’ve lived through it all before and the Canadian tuxedo is just a fashion-forward step too far, then give the trend a nod by teaming a pale denim shirt with grey or black jeans.

Leather Jackets
It’s a leather jacket, Jim, but not as we know it. Nooooo, no biker chic this year, I’m afraid: 2020 is all about the leather blazer, or if you can afford it, the belted leather trench coat! The beauty of this kind of investment piece is that once you own it, you’ll get so much wear out of it because it will go with everything – this season pair it with a pleated midi or maxi skirt, or wear it over an edgy floral dress and add chunky ankle boots. And when it gets really chilly, layer it over a hoodie and/or add a generously-sized scarf for stylish comfort.

Tie Dye
Yup – it’s in again! Big time. Partly fuelled by people bored at home getting back into the home-dyeing habit during lockdown and partly, we suspect, because everyone’s been pining for the festival feels we’ve all missed this year, tie-dye is firmly on the autumn fashion radar – even designers such as Dior and Chanel fell for it’s youthful, carefree charms and incorporated it into their fall collections. Wear our minty top with jeans to show you’re in the fashion know, or have a go at creating a one-of-a-kind piece yourself?

Cardigans, knitted co-ords and graphic jumpers are the knitwear trends that will wrap you up against the autumnal chill this season. We love a cardigan, here at Apples and Pears, and can’t understand why they’re not a trend every year, frankly. What’s not to love about a warm, woolly wrap-around? (Our boyfriend cardigan is a slouchy favourite - and it’s in the sale). We’re bang on trend with our black and white jumper too. Team it with a black knitted tube skirt for the ultimate in natty knitwear.

The last time we wore suede it was fringed and had silver medallions attached… (don’t judge, it was the late 80s and we were very young), but the fuzzy stuff is making an elegant comeback. Partly 70s inspired, suede is popping up in collections everywhere, mostly as skirts and jackets. It’s even being touted as workwear – and we can see how a brown suede A-line skirt could look professional but punchy when worn with something like our ochre blouse. And if you’re lucky enough to have a super supple suede jacket, then team it with grey treggings and a crisp white top for weekend brunches and dog walks.

What are you wearing this season? We’d love to see your pics!
