Our Favourite Dresses This Summer

At last the long hot days of summer have arrived and what better chance to keep cool in light floaty dresses? Even if you’re normally a trousers and jeans lover, why not try a different look? With so many styles to choose from there’s something to suit everyone, from romantic and girly to smart and structured. We’ve chosen our top five looks, and with summer in full swing it’s the perfect time to try something new…

1. Tea Dress
Floaty and often made of a silky fabric which moves with you. Why celebrity? These are great for lots of different occasions, from evening parties with high heels to a barbecue or a trip to the beach. Ditch the heels and swap for flat pretty sandals.

2. Shift Shape
A classic dress shape, worn just below the knee.  This year’s version has short sleeves, shirt-waister style, fitted at the waist and with a straighter skirt. Plain darker colours can be great for the office, but why not pick a print?. Floral doesn’t have to mean traditional there are lots of beautiful oriental inspired prints in jewel colours. Wear with glamorous heels and accessories, for parties or special occasions.

3. Off the Shoulder – Bardot Style

If you like a bit of a flirty look this off-the-shoulder look is for you! This dress is a structured style with a fitted waist and short sleeves, with those shoulders exposed, and a fuller skirt – Audrey Hepburn inspired, and ideal for a city break. Show off your favourite necklace and earrings, and don’t forget the sunscreen on those bare shoulders! For evenings when its cooler, add a pretty lacy shawl or floaty scarf.

4. Tie Waist Or Wrap Dress

Perfect for showing off your curves. This is a smarter style and is ideal to wear for the office, while still looking feminine and not severe. Wrap dresses can also be adjusted to give you a really good fit - - perfect for curvaceous figures.

5. Finally- The Lacy Look

Forget lace as you know it, this year’s designs are of a much chunkier weave and are ideal for parties. Glamorous without being too revealing, black is especially sophisticated. Some styles have a sheer silky under-layer and long sleeves if you prefer. The mini length could also be worn as a tunic over leggings. These dresses have a structured fitted shape but if you like a looser fit buy one size larger.

So, make the most of the glorious weather and enjoy the light and summery freedom of wearing a dress.
