At last Spring is here and it’s time to break free from the dark winter colours and embrace new pastel shades. It can be a bit daunting at first especially if you’re not a girlie girl, and think pastels are not really you. Here are a few tips to ease yourself gently into the sugar fondant shades.
1. Mix with darker colours
For example a dark jacket or shrug and pumps with a pastel skater dress.
2. Add Denim
Even better add denim to give the outfit more edge.
A pale pink tee worn with matching pumps is less sugary sweet if worn with jeans.
3. Keep to one piece per outfit
Wearing head to toe pale colours can make you feel washed out. Keep to one piece per outfit to balance this out. A pastel jacket worn over a darker shift dress can look great.
The trick to wearing pastels is to break them up with darker colours and accessories. Pretty scarves are always handy to for chilly evenings, and to brighten an outfit.
We LOVE clothes shopping on the internet. No queuing in busy shops, you can shop at 3 am in your PJs if you like and it all gets delivered straight to your door. No hassle right? Except its hard to know if something will fit, and if it doesn't then returning items can be costly.
Here at Apples and Pears we are aiming to offer the best of both worlds. Returns are totally free, and we have recently changed our policy to allow you longer to decide about an item. So you can get the opinion of your mum, best mate and boyfriend about whether it suits you!
We asked for your opinions on how to improve your shopping experience, and one thing we heard loud and clear was you HATE IT WHEN CLOTHES DON'T FIT PROPERLY!! So we have added detailed measurements to our listings. While some stores show blanket measurements for each size, we recognize that sizes can vary not just from shop to shop, but from item to item. Check out our fitting room page for full details of how we have measured the items. Also its your look! Just because we show a top worn tightly, you might want to wear it baggy! And vice versa.
And also, just because we are in a good mood, we are now offering free shipping for all orders over £50.
So why not try out our new improved store, and let us know what you think!
Sometimes the crazy clothes pictured in fashion magazines seem to bear little resemblance to anything we would chose in the High Street. However, away from the sky high heels and mismatched colours, we found some really wearable styles, that will soon be finding their way into the shops.
Very easy to wear and worn over a fitted t shirt is a great look for spring into summer when temperatures fluctuate. Try a sugar pink jacket over a black top.
Wearing two or more contrasting prints can seem to break all the fashion rules. Designers showed spots with checks, florals and stripes, often all in one outfit! However carefully mixing prints, using colours that blend well together can be quite effective.
Teal has been a big colour for the past few seasons and continues to be popular. This is great news as strong blue shades like this suit almost everyone. If you feel self conscious wearing bright colours try adding colour with accessories.
Have you noticed how some people always look and dress to suit the weather at a moments notice, while the rest of us are left freezing or boiling? The British weather is so unpredictable, and can change a whole season between going to work and coming home again! So how do these fashionistas manage it? Or maybe you are one? If so what's your secret? Bet you're not letting on - its quite satisfying to look better than everyone else at the bus stop while they give you secretive envious looks!
One answer to looking cool in all weathers has got to be layering. Its a brilliant way to wear something new and summery this time of year without freezing to death.
A pretty dress that can take you through to summer, can be worn now with a long sleeved top underneath or a fitted jumper over the top, and black opaque tights to keep your legs warm. Wear with boots or last seasons biker jacket to give your outfit an edge. The fitted padded jackets that many stores carried in the winter are great too, and add a pretty scarf.
With layers you can add and subtract them as the weather changes and always look your best!
