Here at Apples and Pears we love a dress! And as spring is on its way it means that it will soon be time to stock up on some fab new styles for the new season. If you don’t usually think of yourself as a dress person, then check out our guide to finding the perfect dress for your shape.
Perfect Pear Shapes
You are generally considered pear shaped if you wear a larger size on your bottom than your top. Show off that defined waist with a dress that’s fitted and flares at the hips. Pear shapes tend to have narrower shoulders than hips so you can add some balance with a jacket over the top of your dress. A skater style dress is ideal for you.
We believe that great fashion should make you look and feel fab! We love sharing tips and ideas with you and always encourage you to try something new. So this week we are busting some fashion myths that prevent us from trying a new look. Surprise yourself and give them a try.
1. Some Trends Only Suit the Tall and Skinny
We mean myths such as ‘curvy women shouldn't wear stripes’ or ‘small women should wear small prints and larger women large prints’. If you like a new trend it’s always worth giving it a try. As long as the item fits well and balances your look you may well get a nice surprise. Check out your favourite fashion bloggers for ideas on how to incorporate the latest styles to suit you. We post our favourite blogs on our Facebook page every weekend, so if you are looking for some great fashionistas to follow that’s a good place to start.
2. Opt For Classics
How boring! Of course it’s a good idea to invest in a sensible staple wardrobe as there will always be basic items you wear but it’s fun to team these with different, less sensible pieces.
3. Flat Shoes Equals Comfort
Definitely not true! Those ballerina pumps that look really comfy can actually make your legs ache and your feet sore. A low to medium height heel can be more balanced and while flats are great for short periods a small heel or wedge is kinder on your back too.
So let’s bust these myths and break the rules! Which fashion rules do you like to break?
Valentine’s Day is coming! This time of year the weather is dark and gloomy, summer is a way off and we need something to cheer us up! This February 14th how about making it an excuse to get all glammed up for a night out?
Here’s some tips for the perfect outfit for your valentines date.
1. Pub Meal or Cinema
This year’s warm dresses or tunics with trousers are ideal. Introduce a splash of romantic red or hot pink with a scarf or accessories.
2. Meal After Work
No time to change? Have your heels and accessories in your bag and a shrug or pretty kimono that will transform daytime into evening, along with a quick layer of make-up.
3. Posh Meal Out
This warrants a special dress –maybe one you’ve been saving for a special occasion such as this. Have a try on the day before and experiment with shoes and jewellery that matches. Goosebumps aren’t a good look so have a shrug or kimono to drape around bare shoulders.
Whether it’s fun night or a formal dance comfortable footwear is vital. You can’t let your hair down if you spend the whole evening limping with a blister. And take a pair of flats to change into at the end of the night!
And whatever you’re doing – let your hair down and enjoy! Simple or formal your best accessory is your smile. If you need to drop some hints to get a great present, we've put together a list of ideas. Just leave it open on your tablet when you know your valentine might be looking!
