With the temperature dipping there’s never been a better time to think knitwear! The past few winters have been mild and maybe your wardrobe’s a bit low on cosy knits to keep out the cold. Whether you prefer several thin woolly layers or chunky jumpers there’s lots to choose from. We’ve looked at four ways you can wrap up and still look good, while keeping warm.
1.Jumpers
The warmest way is to wear a thin jumper or top with a thicker heavier knitwear over the top. The cosy layer next to your skin traps in the warm air while the outer layer keeps you extra toasty. How about a fitted top under a thick v neck in a contrasting colour? If you’re a really cold mortal wear two thin under layers, keeping you warm without the bulkiness that, say, a jumper and cardigan under a coat will mean. Layers also mean that you can shed one when you come in from the cold.
2.Cardigans
OK, so maybe you think they’re only for your mum and granny, but think again! A thick chunky style can look great and double as a jacket on milder days. Choose one with a big collar for a warm neck, or long-line to wear with jeans and trousers. For evening a soft fleecy pastel colour that you can drape around your shoulders will mean you can wear that slinky dress and still keep warm! Of course if you prefer a fitted more traditional style shrugs and bolero knits are ideal. We mustn’t forget to mention the coatigan. Usually midi-length, and loose you can wear several layers underneath, with the weight of a coat. Team with trousers or a maxi skirt or dress and boots for a balanced gap free look.
3.Ponchos, Scarves And Shawls
Everyone loves a scarf, whether you choose long and floaty or warm and shoulder hugging, they never date and go with practically everything. In a wide variety of fabrics, styles and colours the choice is yours. Floaty shawls and wraps add a touch of glamour to eveningwear- go for gold or silver or sparkly fabric. Ponchos and pashminas are great with a more casual look, and also for long journeys when wearing a coat to drive can be really uncomfortable. Unlike a coat you can put one in your bag for when you need it.
4.Finally Knitted Dresses
One of this seasons’ key looks in a shift dress shape. Hand wash and dry flat. Choose deep shades for a warm winter look.
