The maxi dress was big news last summer, not having been really popular since the nineties, and this year again they are heavily featured in lots of Spring/Summer Collections, so if you don’t own one yet this is the time to go shopping! Versatile and super-comfy with a touch of glamour, the longer length suits any occasion.

Here are our top five tips to help you to choose your perfect maxi style.

Simple Silhouette
For a simple look keep the shape simple and uncluttered. Classic shift style and in a plain fabric, you can then dress up with accessories and maybe a pretty wide belt. Also choose a bust line which is shaped and a neckline that you feel comfortable with.

Length
Maxi dresses and skirts of yesteryear tended to graze the floor, and were often worn with Doc Martins or clumpy brogues. Now the length is just above the upper ankle, which gives you a change to show off some pretty footwear. From high heels to kitten heels this years maxi trend is much more elegant, making them good for evening-wear too.

Two Toned Look
Another of this years’ looks is a two-toned fabric, so that you keep the top half one print or colour and the reverse on the skirt. Maxis are ideal for this, with maybe a floral print top and a plain colour for the skirt, which gives an uncluttered look.

Learn to Love Colour
With your new length learn to love beautiful bright colours and patterns, and not just for holidays and beachwear. With a simple shape and a longer line an unusual print which you can echo with shoes and accessories.

Keep Your New Length All Year Round!
Once you’ve realised how good you look you may never want to go back! Seriously, a selection of lengths in your wardrobe is so useful and now the maxi is back in business it’s here to stay.

So as you can see there are lots or reasons to love maxis, and there’s never been a better time to take advantage of the vast array in the shops this summer. So experiment and have fun!
